Design and function
The ferro-fluid inside the sealing element forms fluid magnetic O-rings which are maintained in position by a circular magnetic field created by permanent magnets. Gaseous media can be transferred from fixed into rotating components at pressures of up to 1 bar. Vacuum up to 10-8 mbar can be applied. The sealing element is overload-proof up to 2 bar.

Thanks to the low friction and the minimal stick-slip effect of the ferro-fluid as compared to polymer seals, drive power can be reduced. Also, shaft and sealing elements are not subject to wear, which prevents particles from entering the vacuum. The inert ferro-fluid meets further strict requirements in terms of process cleanliness. The sealing elements are maintenance-free and have a long service life.

ROTOVAC rotary unions and combinations are custom-tailored. They are available as hollow and solid shaft designs, with customer-specific or standard connections, as combined unions with multiple channels for vacuum and other media or in combination with electric slip rings.
